Leather and Leather Products Industry Research and Development Center (LLPRIDC), formerly known as Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) is a government institution under ministry of industry established in 1998 with the objective to provide capacity enhancement services for Ethiopian Leather Industry. It provides Education and Training, technical consultancy, Research and Development, and Testing services for the Leather and Leather Products industry.
It has model factories (model tannery, model shoe factory, model leather garment and good factory), mechanical work shop and product development center equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for training and technical service provision. It has also different laboratory facilities (physical, chemical, waste water and instrumentation labs) for provision of product quality and environmental standards analysis.
The Research center is being collaborating with similar international institutions like Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) from India and China Leather and Footwear Research Institute (CLFI) to enhance its own institutional capability and to carry out joint research to alleviate environmental challenges of the leather sector.
